In addition to echoing the heartfelt sentiments of our Bishop regarding the passing of Pope Francis, I also wished to address the postponement of Blessed Carlo Acutis’ canonization to sainthood.
The Vatican announced this past Monday that the canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis has been postponed following the death of Pope Francis.
With the death of the Pope, the Catholic Church has entered a mourning period. While Blessed Carlo’s original canonization date of April 27 was postponed due to the seat of St. Peter being vacant (sede vacante), we look forward to a new date being announced. When will this new date be announced? We’re just not sure. The election of the new Holy Father will be a key piece to have in place first. Hopefully it will be announced soon after.
One guess that has been put forward is that the “Church’s Jubilee of Youth” is scheduled to take place in Rome from July 28 to Aug. 3. During these days another beloved young person, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, is set to be canonized. One wonders if two canonizations might be combined on this day of Blessed Pier Giorgio and Blessed Carlo?
We’ll have to wait and see. These will be extraordinary and historic days, weeks, and months ahead for our beloved Catholic Church. We look forward to witnessing God’s mighty hand of Divine Providence in all things, for He is the Maker of Heaven and Earth.
Happy Easter Season, and Happy Divine Mercy Sunday!
