Dear Friends,
As everyone is aware, the situation with the weather has raised concerns for our friends, neighbors and family. While we New Englanders have a tendency to be somewhat to ourselves, please make sure you check on those around you or call the Police Department and ask for a “Wellness Check” if you have a concern.
In every parish I’ve been in, the month of July seems to be the quietest month. People are enjoying their time away for a well-deserved rest. August is the month where things start to simmer and plans for autumn are starting to reveal themselves. Parish life is no exception to the need for looking ahead and being prepared for the activities to come. Last week I mentioned this and I have heard from some folks that the parish used to have a Spaghetti Supper in the fall. With the gentle reemergence from the COVID pandemic, perhaps it is time to start gathering together as a parish community. We can never presume the pandemic is finished, but we will take the steps necessary to ensure proper precautions are taken.
I find what is most important for any parish is to re-build the community by encouraging such events: Fund Raisers, Pancake Breakfasts, Socials, Coffee and Doughnuts after Mass, etc. All of these things are important small steps that, hopefully, will attract those who are still hesitant to come back. It’s all just one important and patient step at a time. Don’t forget who walks with us in this pilgrimage of life.
Peace,
Fr. Michael
